Douglas Trattner
Thursday, June 06, 2013
It's been four years since Cleveland began allowing residents to keep chickens and one year for Cleveland Heights. Douglas J. Guth
Thursday, May 02, 2013
In the age of digital everything, self-published periodicals are enjoying a bit of a revival. Geared towards those who prefer the tactile sensation of thumbing through an honest-to-goodness magazine, these indie pubs are filling voids left by declining mainstream print.

these ain't no boomerangs: transplants relish life in a new corner of the world
Karin Connelly
Thursday, April 25, 2013
At times it seems like everybody living in this town was born in this town. After all, who would choose to settle here unless they had deep family roots? We introduce four transplants who moved to Cleveland and never looked back. Not only have they made the most of it; they've made a life of it.

work in progress: cleveland making strides to attract young talent
Douglas J. Guth
Thursday, March 28, 2013
For those who don't already know, Cleveland is a place where culture, education, creativity and innovation flourishes affordably. At least, that's the message city boosters are trying to sell to mobile young professionals. According to who you ask, that strategy is either working, working slowly, or not working well at all.

Bob Ignizio
Thursday, January 31, 2013
Back in 2011,
Fresh Water
ran a feature about Ohio's newly instituted Film Production Tax Credit, which helped attract big-budget productions like "The Avengers" and "Alex Cross," plus smaller films like "Take Shelter" and "Fun Size." We decided to revisit the topic to see how it's working out for Cleveland, and Ohio.

Lee Chilcote
Thursday, January 10, 2013
Each year in Cuyahoga County, 20 fortunate artists are awarded $20,000 Creative Workforce Fellowship grants to pursue their art, which often takes a back seat to more pressing needs. The fellowships also help to brand the region to outsiders as an artist-friendly place to live.

Douglas J. Guth
Thursday, December 13, 2012
Recent transplants to Cleveland arriving from so-called "big-ticket" metropolitan markets say that they are experiencing appreciable cost savings in terms of housing, transportation, entertainment and food. And that translates to a better standard of life with little lost in terms of quantity and quality of offerings.

Lee Chilcote
Thursday, September 13, 2012
In recent years, Cleveland Municipal School District has opened 14 new high-performing public schools rated
Excellent

making the impossible possible: editors wrap rust belt book in record time
Douglas Trattner
Thursday, August 09, 2012
In the best of cases, getting a book published can take one to three years from start to finish. Or, you can do it the way Richey Piiparinen and Anne Trubek did with
Rust Belt Chic: The Cleveland Anthology
. The pair of Cleveland writers managed to compress the entire Sisyphean process into an implausible three-month timeframe.
