The Open Office and The Fairmount Group are offering a 12-week program to help anyone with a business idea turn that concept into reality. The Results Are Better program is designed to give prospective business owners -- or struggling owners -- the tools they need to be successful.

Megan McKenzie, a partner with The Fairmount Group, a marketing and communications firm, will lead the classes. McKenzie has 15 years of experience working with small businesses.

“When they leave they will have all the things they need to launch a business or refine it,” she says. “The reason people don’t succeed is they don’t know the right steps to do at the right time.” In addition to covering the basics, like how to create business and marketing plans, there will also be a segment dedicated to social media strategy.

The Open Office will provide the right environment to get the basics, as well as network. Participants receive free Open Office membership throughout the program. “Being able to go to one place to secure knowledge, mentoring and peer interaction is very synergistic,” says McKenzie. “The Fairmount Group and The Open Office are firmly committed to making sure small businesses succeed.”

Three time slots will be offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Wednesday, Jan. 9. McKenzie will also offer free counseling during her Open Office hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays.

When the workshop is over, Open Office and The Fairmount Group plan to continue promoting the businesses that participated. “We will have ongoing support and additional programs,” says McKenzie. “We would like to keep the groups together for at least a year.”

Four people have signed up so far. McKenzie would like to see at least 10 people for each of the three sessions. McKenzie will hold an information session on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 8-9 a.m.
