See where it grows: City Fresh welcomes visitors for farm tours and plant sale

City Fresh is opening the gates to its Oberlin farm this Friday, May 23, for its second annual Open House and Plant Sale

The event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at George Jones Memorial Farm (44333 State Route 511) and gives visitors a chance to explore the nonprofit’s growing site, meet new farmers, and pick up garden-ready plants.

Native plants, vegetable starts, herbs, and pollinator-friendly flowers will be available for sale.

The farm serves as City Fresh’s operational hub, where produce is packed and distributed to neighborhoods across Northeast Ohio through the organization’s 20-week community-supported agriculture (CSA), or farm box, program.

Guests can tour the farm, see the extra-long electric delivery truck in action, and meet the 2025 cohort of the New Farmer Incubator Program—six beginning farmers training for the season ahead.

City Fresh’s mission is to make fresh, local produce more affordable and accessible, especially in areas with limited grocery options. The program offers sliding-scale pricing and accepts SNAP.

This year’s farm box season begins June 17, with 16 pickup locations, called Fresh Stops, across Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Stops include Ohio City, Slavic Village, Old Brooklyn, Buckeye-Shaker, and Collinwood, as well as suburbs like Lakewood, Westlake, Berea, Elyria, and Oberlin.

Farm box shares are available now for pre-order.
