Officials at the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) on Saturday, June 14 were forced to postpone the 33rd annual Parade the Circle because of rain. It was the first time in the popular event’s history that rain dampened the plans.
“Forces of nature, for the first time after 32 years, [called for] what I call intermission,” says Parade the Circle lead artists Héctor Castellanos Lara. Museum officials spread the word of the delay early, and promise the annual parade will be rescheduled soon.
But those makers who had already arrived for final preparations, stepped outside when the rain stopped for a short pre-party of sorts.
“When the rain stopped, all the creators inside the tent brought their creations outside the tent,” Castellanos Lara admits. “A magical parade happened on the sidewalks…around 250 people showed up, clapping, whistling and cheering.”
He says the new date should be decided today, Monday, June, 16. He says Saturday’s brief celebration helped the artists who had worked so hard release their frustrations at the rain.
