Fairytales in the Forest: Nature Center welcomes Fall with AutumnFest this weekend

Crisp air and sunshine are due to move over Northeast Ohio this weekend—just in time for AutumnFest: Fairytales in the Forest at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes in Shaker Heights this Saturday, Oct. 5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Celebrate the beauty of the fall season, with or without costumes. Fun abounds for the entire family with everything from hikes on the trails to activities for all ages and abilities.

“AutumnFest is a perfect family-friendly way to celebrate the fall spirit,” says Tania Younkin, Nature Center director of marketing and community engagement. “Our theme, Fairy Tales in the Forest, is a fun and unique way [to] invite families to enjoy the outdoors and connect to nature with costumes, food, drinks, and activities.”

Guests can decorate their own magic pumpkins, climb the enchanted beanstalk (tree climbing), or take a spooktacular evening hike.

The Shaker Heights Public Library will host story time while guests can concoct s’mores at the fire breathing dragon pit.

Create your own magic wand or make a fairy or gnome home—guests’ choice. Feast on fairy food at Edwin’s and Zanzibar food trucks as well as a food truck serving fair food, or grab witches brew at one of the libation stations with There cider, spiked cider, hot cocoa, alcoholic apple cider spritzers, and a special pumpkin drink, as well as a full bar.  Vendors will also have their wares for sale.

Additionally, guests can order bird seed during the annual Bird Seed Sale, or shop the Fall Perennial Sale from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both sales benefit the nonprofit nature preservation conservancy organization.

AutumnFest: Fairytales in the Forest runs Saturday, Oct. 5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2600 South Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, 44120. The event is free, goes on rain or shine, and is open to the public.
