Here's the scoop on Mason’s Creamery’s upcoming morning dance party

Just as there are few things more refreshing than a scoop of ice cream from Ohio City-based Mason’s Creamery on a hot summer night, owners Helen Qin and Jesse Mason think perhaps the one thing Clevelanders need to get them though the work week is an early morning dance party.

Qin and Mason purchased a new warehouse in Old Brooklyn a couple months ago, with plans to use part of the 9,000-square-foot space for cold storage of their ice cream supplies and rent out the rest of the space. Right now, the space sits empty.

“We thought, 'Why not doing something fun before anything serious happens to it?'” explains Qin. So, the two are planning a Morning People Daybreak Dance Party on Wednesday, August 1.

Not only will the event give Clevelanders a chance to energize before work, but the proceeds from the $5 admission cost will go directly to Recovery Resources, an addiction and mental health services agency with offices in Lakewood, Old Brooklyn, and MidTown.

The event, sponsored by Mason’s Creamery and Scare Your Soul, starts promptly at 6 a.m. with an optional yoga class led by yoga instructor Kat Hollo of Scare Your Soul and Soul Stretch Yoga. (Bring your own mat.)

At 7 a.m., the dancing begins. Music will be provided by DJ Steph Floss, the official DJ of the Cleveland Cavaliers and resident mixshow DJ at WENZ Z107.9 radio. “We will be playing early 90s dance music, something fun and nostalgic,” says Qin. Coffee and light breakfast will be provided by Phoenix Coffee and Cleveland Bagel Company. The whole thing shuts down at 8:30 a.m., leaving plenty of time to head to work.

Other co-sponsors include Dance Party, Soul Connect, Cleveland Scene, Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club, and Run Wild Cleveland.

“We’re just hoping people have fun,” says Qin of the event. “All are welcome, and proceeds benefit Recovery Resources, so it’s a way to diverge from routine and do something good at the same time.”

Tickets are on sale through Monday, July 30. The Mason’s Creamery warehouse is located at 3504 Stanford Road in Old Brooklyn.
