Blowing bubbles: Dr. U.R. Awesome to try for additional world records at Tower City

Bubble master, magician, and world record-holder Gary Pearlman, better known as Dr. U.R. Awesome, has made a career out of blowing bubbles and sharing his craft with school children and adults of all ages.

While he has already earned 11 Guinness World Records for his bubbles (including the largest free floating bubble in 2014 and again in 2015 at Wade Oval, and the largest soap bubble blown by hand in 2019), this Sunday, May 7 Dr. Awesome will attempt to add five more world records to the book at Tower City Center.

The Mayfield Heights resident will be joined by bubbleologist and season 13 America’s Got Talent performer Blaise Ryndes to assist him in the bubble quest. Thomas Altman, a physicist and author of “Bubble Construction Kit: Building Amazing Bubbles Structures,” will be the certified Guinness calculator for measurement.

The bubbleologists will show off their skills from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at the Gund Foundation Green in Public Square Park before heading to Tower Court on the north side of Tower City on Sunday, May 7 to try for the records.

The five records Dr. U.R. Awesome will attempt are:

  • Tallest Free Standing Soap Bubble
  • Tallest Supported Soap Bubble Tube
  • Largest Soap Bubble Tornado
  • Largest Soap Bubble Volcano

Pearlman says he hopes to achieve all five Guinness World Records for indoor bubbles in a little more than an hour. All bubble events are free and open to the public.
