Over the weekend, the FreshWater staff learned that our friend, Cassandra Fear, was struck and killed by a car on West 130th Street near Lakewood after she hit a parked car and exited her vehicle.

The 41-year-old Fear owned Fears Confections—making small-batch deserts from scratch—since 2010, first as a mail-order company, then opening a shop in Collinwood in 2013, and ultimately landing on Madison Avenue in Lakewood in 2014.

In September 2022, Fear celebrated Fear’s Confections’ 12th anniversary and planned expansion with a community party. In June 2023, Fear closed her shop and had since taken a position as Cuyahoga County clerk.

The confectioner was kind and giving. Fear described her shop and creations as reflecting her “rockabilly personality through a clearly vintage feel, with a splash of modern edge.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help her husband and two children with expenses.

Cassandra Fear: June 1982-December 2023. She will be missed.
