On the heels of our successful On the Ground community reporting initiative last year in Old Brooklyn
, we are announcing two
OTG initiatives this year in the La Villa Hispana
neighborhoods. For each neighborhood, we are seeking a freelance project editor to be the point person and work closely with our managing editor and partners to bring the vision to fruition. Duties will include developing, writing, assigning, and editing stories; engaging with the community; managing budgets; and attending/planning neighborhood events.
A keen eye for story ideas, strong writing and editing skills, and a well-developed knowledge of the neighborhood are required—as well as the ability and desire to affect and spotlight lasting, positive change within the community. For the La Villa Hispana initiative, we are seeking someone who speaks both English and Spanish. Both positions will entail around 8-12 hours per week and last about four months. There will be an editorial advisory meeting in March, so we hope to hire by end of February.
