The Cleveland Museum of Art's young affiliates group, Column & Stripe, today will host the second installment of its Art of Fashion series. Art of Fashion: Makers and Innovators Panel features a panel of local designers and innovators who will discuss the future of fashion and Cleveland's role in the national scene.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announced the birth of a male giraffe calf, born to 14-year-old mother Tuli on August 15. This birth marks a milestone in the zoo's ongoing efforts to conserve the vulnerable giraffe species. The calf will remain out of public view temporarily to allow for critical bonding time with its mother and gradual acclimation to the rest of the giraffe herd.

Season 8 of Cleveland Chain Reaction, the pitch competition led by the Greater Cleveland Partnership's Council of Smaller Enterprises is nearing its finale as 22 semifinalists are competing this week in showcase days. The winners of the cash prizes will be announced at the Aug. 27 finale at the Ariel LaSalle Theater.

EDWINS Leadership & Restaurant Institute hosted a five-course dinner at Grafton Correctional Institution, prepared and served by incarcerated individuals participating in EDWINS owner Brandon Chrostowsski's culinary program. The event showcased the students' culinary skills and the produce grown in the prison's garden, while highlighting EDWINS' mission of providing second chances through culinary education.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northeast Ohio this week donated 20,000 pounds of food to the Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, significantly boosting its food pantry supplies at a time when households are financially tight. The donation is part of the Salvation Army's "Need Knows No Season" campaign to raise awareness about year-round hunger.

The 79th annual One World Day on Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens will celebrate multiculturalism and showcase the diverse nationalities and cultural groups in Northeast Ohio. The event features cultural performances, international cuisine, the opportunity to explore about 40 Cultural Gardens, and Cleveland Historical's self-guided audio tours of  the gardens.

The 2025 Lifebanc Gift of Life Walk & Run brought together walkers and runners to celebrate lives saved through organ, eye, and tissue donation. The event raised awareness and funds for Lifebanc's mission while honoring donors, recipients, and families affected by organ donation.

Cleveland public artist Stephen Manka designed and constructed a unique turnstile gate for the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve, blending form and function in his newest installation. The gate, featuring silhouettes of red-winged blackbirds in an egg-like design, serves as a symbolic entrance into "a birding paradise" while also fulfilling practical needs.

Local animal shelters hope to capitalize on the fact the new Superman movie was filmed in Cleveland and features Krypto, Superman's Superdog. While haven't seen a significant increase in adoptions yet, shelters like Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, Cleveland APL, and City Dogs Cleveland are running promotions and showcasing long-term canine residents to attract potential pet parents.

Canalway will host its annual Cuyahoga River Rally on Saturday, August 9, at Hart Crane Memorial Park in The Flats. The free event features a variety of activities to connect people to the Cuyahoga River, including boat tours, kayaking, live music, and educational programs.

The Slovenian National Home hosted its third annual Zabava festival, celebrating Cleveland's Slovenian culture and heritage. The free, family-friendly event featured traditional food, music, and activities, including a showcase of the Kurent costume used in the Cleveland Kurentovanje Festival.

Kristy Christie and her Team Kini Bini have raised nearly $150,000 for Lifebanc's Gift of Life Walk & Run since 2018, honoring the memory of her 11-year-old daughter Keira, who became an organ donor after her sudden death. The annual event brings together donor families and transplant recipients, celebrating the power of organ donation and the lasting impact of those who give the gift of life.

Cleveland Neighborhood Progress is hosting a series of free summer events at Shaker Square. This week includes live music performances, a kids' dance class, and a Safari on the Square. The events aim to encourage community engagement, support local businesses, and showcase the area's unique offerings, with activities running through the summer and into the fall.

The Cleveland Silent Film Festival & Colloquium will present a free double bill of silent shorts at the Cleveland Public Library as part of the library's 100th anniversary celebration. The event features "War Story," a contemporary silent film inspired by Charlie Chaplin's work, along with Chaplin's "Sunnyside."
